Region 1 registers lower palay yield this year
A decrease in palay yield in the region during the first half of 2022 was reported by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) regional office.
According to PSA-I Chief Statistical Specialist Juanito Yabes’s presentation last week, the country’s recorded the harvest of 8,743,588 metric tons of palay from January to June this year, was 0.64-percent lower compared to 2021.
The decrease is partly attributed to the region’s lower palay yield that saw a 0.04 percent decline, with only 509,347 metric tons harvested during the first half of 2021, while January to June 2022 only yielded 509,168 metric tons.
Despite the lower production, Region I is still the fifth highest cropping yield per hectare.
Central Luzon, commonly called the Rice Granary of the country, still leads with the highest yield of harvested palay per hectare. (Ahikam Pasion)
