Prices of noche buena goods rise ahead of holidays
STILL almost a month remaining before the holidays, but the prices of noche buena goods have increased, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)–Pangasinan.
In a price guide released by the DTI on Wednesday, November 23, around 195 out of 223 shelf keeping units (SKU) products have increased their Suggested Retail Price (SRP).
An average of 10 percent increase was recorded.
Prices of some 94 food products increased by more than 10 percent, while 51 items will go up by 6 to 10 percent.
Eight SKUs saw no price change, while two items have lowered their prices.
According to the department, it has monitored an increase in the prices of ham, fruit cocktail, cheese, queso de bola, mayonnaise, sandwich spread, pasta, elbow macaroni, spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, and creamer. The brands of the items were not released.
The DTI, however, cleared that it does not regulate or approve the adjustment in prices of noche buena items, unlike basic necessities.
Price adjustments have been implemented by manufacturers way before the DTI released its SRP guide.
Meanwhile, DTI is discussing with manufacturers how consumers can purchase their products at lower costs. (Ahikam Pasion)
