Rice, meat supply for holidays enough – DA
THE Department of Agriculture (DA) said there is enough supply of rice and meat to last through the holiday season.
The department said majority of the rice supply will be from local produce whose quantity can meet the demand towards the end of the year.
However, despite adequate rice supply, retail price adjustments are expected, particularly in October, due to drought in China.
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) recorded a steady increase in rice stock inventory, now at 2,034.57 metric tons, of which 160.50 MT are NFA stocks.
Meanwhile, the DA also assured the public that meat supply will not diminish.
The rise in meat demand is expected especially during the holiday period since almost all households serve meat in great quantities.
According to the DA supply projection, the broiler supply is expected to be at 1.82 million metric tons (MT) but pork supply will fall to .10 million MT below the 1.64 million MT demand. (Ahikam Pasion)
