Coke running out in supermarkets, sari-sari stores
THERE is bad news for those who love to drink Coke.
Coca Cola in bottles and even in cans disappeared on the shelves of supermarkets, groceries and even in small sari-sari stores lately.
Sari-sari store owners and other retailers have confirmed that deliveries of Coke, Tru Orange and Sprite from their usual suppliers have stopped since last week presumably because the Coca Cola Bottling Plant in Calasiao town announced its temporary suspension of its operations due to lack of supply of bottler grade refined sugar as a result of the ongoing sugar crisis in the country.
In the market, there are still some small plastic bottles of Coke for sale but retailers do not know when they are going to be replenished by their suppliers.
The Coca Cola Bottling Plant in Calasiao, has closed its gates last week with the notice that it has temporarily suspended bottling operations due to the unavailability of bottlers grade refined sugar.
It appears that the Calasiao Coca Cola Bottling Plant is not the only one that suspended its operations. The bottling plants in Pavia, Iloilo, Cebu and in Bohol closed their operations.
The Calasiao plant’s suspension of its operations resulted in the disruption work of its hundreds of employees and dealers contracted to deliver products from the plant to various outlets of the products.
All the plants that suspended their operations are expected to resume soon once the 150,000 metric tons of sugar imported by the Philippine government from abroad arrive in the country. (Leonardo Micua)
