PORK PRICES DOWN BY 12%

PRICE of pork is finally down after a seeming endless escalation over the past weeks.

So said the farmgate price of pork has since gone down by P20 or P290 per kilogram of pork products, from P 330 per kilo, in local markets and has urged the Department of Agriculture (DA) to ensure that they enforce the current market price of pork.

“Dapat bumaba na rin ang presyo ng manok sa PHP185 per kilo”, said So.

On seeing pork and poultry farmgate prices go down, the rice sector is confident that palay prices will not see any increase.

SINAG, along with the DA, seeks to stabilize the prices of primary commodities until December this year.

Meanwhile, SINAG thanked the Marcos administration for its focus on the agriculture sector that made government see the deficiencies in the agriculture sector.

“Nakita ni PBBM ang malaking porsyentong kailangang habulin pagdating sa food production,” said So.

SINAG statistics show rice production fell by 95%, but has now recovered to 85%, pork production which was previously at 98% is now at 65%, and poultry, which was at 95% deficiency, but now has also gone up to 85%.

So said Marcos is ‘passionate’ in agriculture and will eventually stop the smuggling of agriculture products.

“Halos PHP11 billion ang halaga ng agricultural smuggled goods na pumapasok sa bansa,” said So who also lauded PBBM for agreeing to provide P5,000 ayuda to farmers.

He said eight billion pesos have been downloaded to Landbank and the Development Bank of the Philippines, which will be given to farmer-beneficiaries who are members of RCEP.
