Lower generation charges from Decorp expected soon

THE solar power plant in Sta. Barbara will start boosting power generation of Dagupan Electric Corporation (DECORP) once fully operational.

This was confirmed by Atty. Randy Castilan, Decorp spokesperson, who said once the solar power plant located at Barangay Erfe in Santa Barbara town is completed, it will result in lower generation charges in the long run.

The solar plant, an embedded power generator that will supply solar energy exclusively to Decorp, is still in its first phase, initially supplying 2 MW. The power plant is expected to be fully operational by July 26.

Castilan said the plant will supply solar power only in the morning, when the demand is heavy and power generation costs are expensive.

“The power plant will also stabilize the supply side of Decorp, as this will cover for any power shortages that result in unexpected power interruption,” he added.

He said the current P5.54 per kilowatt hour in generation charge will be lower with the plant’s full operation.

The solar plant’s 20MW capacity will supply 25 percent of DECORP’s 100,000 customers.

The 20-Megawatt (MW) power plant of OneManaoag Solar Corporation was initiated by DECORP along with SunAsia Energy Inc., and is being operated by CleanTech Global Renewables Inc., an independent power producer and renewable electricity developer in the country.

Decorp did not invest a single peso in the construction of the power plant but it installed a 69-kilovolt (kV) line from the DECORP substation, spanning 6.1 kilometers to the OneManaoag power plant.

The Electricity Supply Agreement with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) guarantees Decorp exclusive use of the solar plant DECORP for 25 years.

Decorp presently has five power suppliers: the OneManaoag solar power plant, the coal-fired power plant by GNPower, the hydroelectric power plant in Benguet (SNAP-Benguet), the energy market, and power being produced by net metering customers.

On October 2022, Decorp is set to sign a 10-year agreement with a Leyte-based geothermal power plant that will initially cost P4.16 in generation charge and further lower generation charges for the benefit of its customers. (Ahikam Pasion)
