Low buffer stocks of NFA Warehouses in Region 1

By July 3, 2022Business

BUFFER stocks of rice in NFA Warehouses throughout the Ilocos Region have been noticeably low.

As of press time, around 200,000 sacks of rice are distributed in NFA warehouses around the region. This is a hundred thousand lower, compared to last month’s 300,000 sacks.

NFA personnel said they are having a hard time purchasing rice from farmers, as they have just began planting rice in the first week of June.

The NFA targets 19,500 metric tons of palay procurement this 2022, but so far, only 6% has been achieved.

With the month of September nearing, the NFA assured the funds for the procurement of palay is ready.

The month of September is considered ‘harvest season’ for rice farmers.

Despite the low buffer stocks, the NFA assured that rice supply in Region 1 is sufficient. (Ahikan Pasion)
