Pangasinan trade expo assists local MSMEs
TO HELP RECOVER THEIR LOSSES
THE Pangasinan Tourism and Trade Expo that featured various products from entrepreneurs in the province’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sold at affordable prices, officially opened at the Lingayen beachfront as the main activity to celebrate the 442nd Pangasinan founding anniversary celebration last week.
Among the products are chicharon (pork rinds), tapa, chips, puto (steamed rice cake), dried fish, handicrafts such as baskets, and others.
Invited to participate in the expo are MSMEs in Pangasinan that did not earn for two years because of the pandemic.
“We have invited our MSMEs provincemates to give them the chance to earn amid the pandemic as this is also a chance for them to showcase their products,” Governor Amado Espino III said in an ambush interview.
Records of the provincial government showed that most of these MSMEs sold P4.5 million worth of different items when the province conducted its Kabuhayan Palengke Karaban.
The exhibitors were among 448 MSMEs and cooperatives, whose 1,2000 members availed of the P227,7 million released by the provincial government under the Provincial Loan Assistance Program (PLAP) from 2008 to 2022.
Espino said participating producers are provided stalls for free.
He said if there are no fresh Covid infections logged in weeks’ ahead, more exhibitors will be added every week.
The Tourism and Trade Expo will last until May 1 this year simultaneous with the celebration Pista’y Dayat (Sea Festival).
This year’s celebration has become simple yet meaningful after two years of restrictions due to the pandemic. (Leonardo Micua/ Jerick Pasiliao)
