BSP joins tourism expo, replaces old banknotes
THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) urges the public to come to their Agri-Tourism Expo booth on April 29-30 to exchange old and mutilated banknotes to new ones.
This invitation was extended by Gomer Gomez, BSP North Luzon Regional Office Senior Research Specialist, in an interview Thursday, April 21.
The BSP will have a booth at the entrance of the Tourism and Agri-Trade Expo, located behind the Veterans’ Memorial Park in Lingayen town, where anyone can exchange their old and damaged banknotes (torn, slightly burned, stained, etc.) for new crispy bills.
Gomez, however, pointed out that at least 60% of the banknote is intact and shows signatures of the President of the Republic and the BSP Governor and the presence of security thread; and banknotes not included in the New Design Series (NDS) are not included, as they have already been demonetized.
Aside from money exchange, Gomez also said BSP’s booth offers financial literacy programs and basic knowledge on counterfeit banknote identification.
Visitors may also have a chance to win special prizes, and even avail of a Henna tattoo.
The booth will open at 9 in the morning, and close at 2 in the afternoon on both April 29 and 30. (Ahikam Pasion)
