Espino hails P4.5 billion solar power project to rise in Bugallon

GOVERNOR Amado Espino III expressed his gratitude to the Aboitiz Power Corporation for investing in a  P4.5 billion solar energy project in Bugallon town that broke ground on Thursday, February 24, hoping to make  Pangasinan set the pace in the efforts to harness energy from the sun throughout the country.

Launched through virtual online groundbreaking ceremony was the Cayanga Bugallon Solar Power Project, an initiative of the Aboitiz Power Corporation, Sinag Power Inc., Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the provincial government of Pangasinan and the municipal government of Bugallon.

“Through this multi-billion peso project, we are truly blessed to cement our partnership with Aboitiz Power Corporation in harnessing the power of the sun to bring clean energy to our homes, our offices and our industries,” Gov, Espino said.

The ceremony was also participated in by Aboitiz Renewables Inc. Vice President David Aboitiz, Executive Director Dave Smith, Power Generation Group Chief Operating Officer Alexander Coo, DENR Undersecretary Wimpy Fuentabella, and Bugallon Mayor Priscilla Espino.

The project, once completed, is expected to produce 147 million kilowatt hours of solar energy annually, equivalent to the annual electric consumption yearly of 60,000 Filipino homes.

 

For her part, Mayor Espino thanked Aboitiz Power Corporation for choosing Bugallon as site of the project.

 

Meanwhile, Aboitiz Power Generation Group’s Coo said his company believes that Pangasinan is key to the energy revolution that is needed to reform the way the country looks at renewable energy resources.

 

He said the Cayanga Bugallon Solar Power Project which supports the government’s thrust in promoting energy resources in the country, aims to accelerate the decarbonization of the country, is the first project of Aboitiz Power in Pangasinan.

 

Pangasinan is also the host of the San Roque Multi-purpose Dam Power Project  in San Manuel town and the Sual Coal-fired Power Plant in Sual. (Leonardo Micua)
