THE construction of the Pangasinan side of the 54-kilometer Daang Kalikasan (from Mangatarem town in Pangasinan to Sta. Cruz town in  Zambales) is already complete while the work to complete the Zambales side still ongoing.

This was bared by Lingayen Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil, then congressman of the Second District who initiated the project to provide motorists a shorter route from Pangasinan to Zambales and skirt the long circuitous winding road from Alaminos City down to Mabini, Burgos, Dasol, Infanta, Pangasinan to San Narciso, Zambales.

Bataoil, however, said the Daang Kalikasan, which remains close to enable the completion of the work on the Zambales side, is seen to rival the beauty and grandeur of the well-paved Subic Bay road leading to Olongapo City from Pampanga.

Bataoil said travel time along the Daang Kalikasan, from Mangatarem to Sta. Cruz, Zambales, will only be an hour, and will be linked to the Daang Katutubo, another scenic road being built by the DPWH starting in Aguilar town, which was designed to provide access road to members of the tribal community living in the area.

He said near the point where the two roads will meet is a water fall whose water empties into a natural basin that could serve as a swimming area for tourists on a brief stop-over.

When completed, both the Daang Kalikasan and Daang Katutubo will be a big boon to the economies of Pangasinan and Zambales and will enhance as well their tourism potentials. (Leonardo Micua)
