Dagupan SP eyes shift to 12 a.m. – 4:00 a.m. curfew

SINCE number of COVID-19 active cases has been on a downtrend, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) is set to hold a public hearing on Monday to act on proposed ordinance seeking to shorten curfew in Dagupan from 12 midnight to 4:00 a.m.

Proposed Ordinance No. 0-801, filed by Councilor Michael Fernandez, seeks to amend the current curfew period, from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.

Seconded jointly by Councilors Dennis Canto and Marvin Fabia, the proposed ordinance was referred to the committees on laws and ordinances headed by Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo, and peace and order headed by Councilor Luis Samson Jr.

Tamayo set the public hearing at 2:00 p.m. on November 8 and expected to attend are P/Lt. Colonel Benjie Tremor, chief of police of Dagupan City, and representatives from the City Mayor’s Office and the Public Order and Safety Office.

The public hearing, to be done by zoom, will discuss the merits of the Fernandez’s proposal aimed at restoring the local economy by affording residents longer time to earn more before the Christmas holiday and city fiesta.

In Metro Manila, officials have lifted the curfew and curfew in Pangasinan has been shortened, 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. in an executive order of Governor Amado Espino III, following the restoration of its Modified General Community Quarantine classification. (Leonardo Micua)
