DOLE’s Jobstart jumpstarts 200 youths’ careers

SOME 200 young workers in cities of Dagupan and Alaminos recently enlisted as trainees under the Jobstart program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for a full cycle training to become new productive members of the region’s labor force.

The trainees from the two cities are among those recruited in 40 local governments as  Jobstart’s implementation areas in the country.

Jobstart, started in 2016 through Republic Act No. 10869 or the Jobstart Philippines Act, seeks to facilitate the employment of at-risk youth in the country, by addressing the gap in the school-to-work transition, considered one of the hurdles that curtail youth employment.

Specifically, it addresses the concerns of young Filipinos through various interventions such as Registration of Jobseekers, Life Skills Training, Job Matching and Referral to Partner Employers, Technical Training, Internship and Wage Employment.

Dagupan City was among first pilot areas in 2016 and the new batch of 100 signed their participation agreement training on August 13.

“This is the beginning of an exciting journey ahead of you. At this point early on, I congratulate you because to be a Jobstart trainee is a feat in itself,” DOLE  Regional Director Atty. Evelyn Ramos told the trainees during the ceremonial signing event.

In Alaminos City, employers were invited to a forum and orientation this month during the signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the city government and the DOLE regional office. (DOLE)
