DOT out to boost domestic tourism promotion
THE promotion of domestic tourism will continue to be the thrust of the Department of Tourism (DOT) this year amid the persistent threat of the COVID-19 pandemic to enable the industry stakeholders’ early recovery.
Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said more than 110 million domestic tourists were recorded last year compared to the 8.2 million foreign tourists.
Puyat said she is confident that foreign tourists will eventually arrive in bigger numbers once the COVID-19 situation in the country improves because only those Overseas Filipino Workers are allowed to enter the country today.
She said the DOT is lobbying with the Inter-Agency Task Force to shorten the 14-day quarantine protocol days to further encourage tourists to come and visit because the period is too long for anyone wanting to visit the country.
She also encouraged various tourist destinations in the country to boost their vaccination program among their staff to boost chances of foreign tourists to visit. (Jerick Pasiliao)
