Decorp’s new substation to serve San Fabian solely
ECONOMIC BOOM EXPECTED
ANTICIPATING an economic boom in San Fabian with the entry of the San Miguel Corporation in San Fabian town, the Dagupan Electric Company (Decorp) constructed a 20-25 MVA (Mega Volt Ampere) substation to ensure a more reliable electric service in the town.
Augusto Sarmiento, network operations manager of Decorp, told the Sangguniang Panlalawigan during its Question Hour last June 14, that the new substation located in Barangay Tempra Guilig is set to be energized on June 26.
He said in addition to the operations of SMC in San Fabian, more reliable electric power will be needed to support the industries and businesses that will soon rise in the town in the next few years.
Sarmiento said a transmission line connects the new substation to the bigger substation of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in Balingueo, Sta. Barbara.
He said San Fabian is presently served by the substation in adjacent San Jacinto that also services Manaoag town.
As a contingency, Decorp can still serve San Fabian through the Decorp substation at A.B. Fernandez Avenue West in Dagupan City.
Sarmiento told Fourth District Board Member Liberato Villegas who is from San Fabian that unfortunately substations are step-down transformers and will have no storage capacity.
Meanwhile, Sarmiento warned the SP that based on the announcement of the Department of Energy and the Energy Regulation Commission, no improvement is seen in the supply of energy in the months of July and August with the scheduled shut down of some power plants up for preventive maintenance.
Sarmiento and the other managers of power utilities in Pangasinan appeared before the SP to answer some questions relative to its inquiry on real causes of recent power outages in Pangasinan. (Leonardo Micua)
