MORE than 8,000 farmers and residents in Manaoag stand to benefit from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR)’s P13.3-million ‘Tulay ng Pangulo para sa Kaunlarang Pang-agraryo (TPKP) bridge project.

The new bridge will be constructed in the town’s Barangay Oraan East spanning 28.8 meters, single span, double lane.

Agrarian Reform Secretary John Castriciones laid the capsule for the groundbreaking of construction of the bridge that will link the town’s agrarian reform communities to the economic mainstream and open up development potentials in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s 10 Point Agenda of job creation and decentralization of progress.

DAR Assistant Regional Director Ma. Anna Francisco and concurrent provincial agrarian reform officer of Pangasinan, said the budget for the project includes the construction and installation. The program seeks to build 188 universal bridges in priority agrarian reform communities.

Francisco said two more Tulay ng Pangulo will be built in the towns of Dasol and Binmaley.

In his message, he lauded the initiative of many agencies working hand-in-hand to help the farmers.

Tulad ng tulay na ipapatayo dito ngayon, kailangan din natin ng tulay na magli-link sa ating mga farmers sa mga iba’t bang ahensya ng gobyerno dahil maraming handang tumulong na ahensya. We just need to reach out,” said Fourth District Representative Christopher De Venecia who urges more young Filipinos to engage in agriculture.

Mayor Kim Mikael Amador thanked the national government for the bridge and farm inputs despite the many challenges the country is facing. “Isang karangalan po na ang Manaoag ay isang recipient ng Tulay ng Pangulo. Sa barangay na ito, pagka mataas ang volume ng tubig, baha na dito,” he said.  (PIA Pangasinan/(VHS)
