Online tax payments soon in Dagupan

By May 23, 2021Business

SOON taxpayers of Dagupan can pay their Real Property Taxes, fees and other charges, including fines for traffic violations to the city government online with the help of Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP).

The online tax payment scheme will be in put in place if the proposed ordinance being prepared by Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo is passed.

According to Tamayo, he received letters from taxpayers, some of whom are from outside Dagupan, requesting that they pay their taxes online instead of having to personally transact business with the One-Stop Business Center.

The design and system for online payment is being tested by the Information Communications Technology team of the city government headed by Gideon Ymasa who assured the Sangguniang Panlungsod last May 21 that these may be ready by the end of June.

Work on the online payment system started with the passage of Ordinance No. 221-2020 or the amended Revised Revenue Code of Dagupan authored by Councilor Michael Fernandez, which provided for online electronic payment and or other similar means of alternative mode of payment for the effective and efficient collection of taxes.

Fernandez conceded, however, that there must be a separate ordinance to be passed by the SP specifically providing for the adoption of online payment of taxes and its corresponding internal rules and regulations.

Ymasa told the SP that his team is in the process of adjusting the system’s security perimeter involving credit cards and others before online payment can be finally launched.

“Our first plan was to make it a web-based without a mobile-base,” he said, adding that  being tested is the system making it both web-based and mobile-based.

The team is working with the Commission on Audit to ensure that once a taxpayer pays online, the amount will be credited immediately with the account of the city government with Land Bank.

Councilor Tamayo commended Ymasa and his team for his initiative.

City Treasurer Romelita Alcantara lauded the adoption of online in the payment of taxes particularly in this time of the pandemic. (Leonardo Micua)
