More hired at Labor Day job fairs

AT least 354 applicants were hired on the spot during the Labor Day Jobs Fair in Pangasinan organized by the Department of Labor and Employment.

Engracio Bailon, head of DOLE-Central Pangasinan, said the job fairs held in Rosales town on May 1 and Urdaneta City on May 2 offered 26,000 job vacancies by 54 establishments/employers for local employment and 19 employers for job placements abroad.

“The 354 applicants were hired on-the-spot for local employment but we cannot hire on-the-spot for job placement abroad because there are many requirements for employment in a foreign land. But with the numerous vacancies, many are sure to get employment,” Bailon said.

Skilled workers or those with technical-vocational trainings have an 85 percent chance of getting hired than unskilled workers, he added.

Four more job fairs in Pangasinan are scheduled this month: May 10 at CB Mall, Urdaneta City; May 19 in Bayambang town; May 28 in Mangaldan town and June 12 at the Nepo Mall in Dagupan City. (PIA1-PangasinanVHS)
