MY PROVINCE:                Ms. Joyce Gacutan, the PR officer of MIRANT based in Sual called me in my cee to give her reactions  to my previous column regarding MIRANT’s (U.S.) filing of Chapter 11 in the U.S.

Here’s the complete response:

MIRANT PHILIPPINES NOT AFFECTED BY CHAPTER 11 FILING IN THE UNITED STATES

“Mirant Philippines will continue to operate normally, it will be business as usual”

The operations of Mirant Philippines Corporation will not in any way be affected by the filing of voluntary petitions for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code in the United States.

Flake explained that the Chapter 11 filing in the U.S. is initial to Mirant Americas and Mirant Corporations in the U.S. “I would like to make it clear that Mirant Philippines is not included in or affected by the filing,” he stressed.

He also assures that all aspects of the company operations will go on unhampered. “We will continue to be a separate business unit, generate and deliver electricity to our customers, meet all contractual obligations, and support community development programs. Flake adds that the company’s assets in the Philippines will continue to be among the most reliable and cost effective in the country.

“Our employees in the Philippines will continue to report for work, get paid and receive benefits. We are among the best employers in the country and we intend to hold that status in many years to come,” Flake pointed out.

Mirant Philippines’ community development programs will likewise not be discontinued. “Our corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs are among the largest in the country and an important component of our business in the Philippines and these will certainly go on,” he stressed.

Mirant Philippines is the largest private producer of electricity in the country, owning more that 2000 megawatts of installed generating capacity.

I really do not care about the perceived quarrel between MIRANT & NAPOCOR who’s going to pay the P17M monthly RPT to my province. The bottom line here is the P17M RPT just stopped without the province being informed. This raise the goal of BM Johnny Amor, pretty lawyer Din-din Baniqued & of course Atty. Virgilio Solis, who being the provincial administrator is burning candles how to re-align priority projects. It’s hurting Gov. Victor’s administration & the timing is bad – its election year!

My province had a good romance with MIRANT, but after years of being used and abused. Lady Pangasinan is just being treated as a whore. As they say, love & lust is good till it lasts.

MY CITY:                The City Plaza is now becoming a model for other towns. Mayor Carlos Trece Mapili of Tayug and Mayor Mojamito Libunao of San Fabian are both occupied in fund raising activities to upgrade their respective plazas in time for X’mas & Balikbayan season.

Plaza is a place for family bondings. Visit our City plaza in the evening and you’ll see familiar faces enjoying its amenities.
