Here’s a story I read in The Meaning of Life’s page on Facebook that I’d like to share, something that we can all learn from.

ONE day an elderly woman admitted to a hospital. She was irritable and in pain, and the orderly thought she was off her rocker because she kept yelling for her husband to bring her a basket of peaches.

By the time they had checked her into her room, the nurses were weary from the struggle she had put up. “Ma’am you need to settle down. We are doing all that we can for you” they begged.  “I don’t want your help!” the old woman would scream. “I want my peach basket!” Finally, she slept.

As the nurses talked, the woman’s husband came in carrying a basket of peaches.

Every day her husband would bring her unripe peaches in the morning and leave with ripe peaches in the evening. And the nurses’ curiosity grew until one nurse couldn’t stand it anymore. One night, the nurse sat next to the woman as she rested. “How did you get that basket of peaches? What makes it so special?” “I am a peach farmer” the old woman sighed. “From the day I was born to the day I die, I will be surrounded by peaches.” She just loved her work, the nurse thought.

She started to leave, but the old woman asks her to stay. “When I was 20 I accepted the Lord as my Savior The day I accepted the Lord as my Savior I got this basket. And each time I had a concern that I could not resolve, I put an unripen peach in the basket.” “What? Why?” the nurse asked. “It reminded me to give those problems to the Lord for him to transform.”

“As my concerns become solutions, the peaches ripen. And when I get new problems, I put another peach.” The nurse looked into the basket and only one peach remained. Then the old woman took a deep breath and took her husband by the hand and passed into eternal sleep. Her husband bowed his head for a moment and then got up from his place to take the last remaining peach from the basket. He then told the nurse that his wife’s reward awaited her in heaven.

The nurse asked tearfully, “What will her reward be?” The husband knew it was eternal life with Jesus Christ. On seeing the sadness on the young nurse’s face. He handed her the ripe peach. That was the day the young nurse opened her heart to God.
