A CRYBABY — I find it disgusting if not funny to hear a city official threaten another official with “Isusumbong kita kay Duterte” or words to that effect. He must be a great fan of “Isumbong kita kay Tulfo” of our old PNA colleague Ramon.

To my mind, that fellow sounded like a lost little crybaby, unable to stand on his own two feet just to reasonably argue his case in healthy parliamentary debates.

Did he invoke the name of the “Punisher” because he thinks he can scare everyone in the city? Or was he simply bragging? Didn’t it occur to him that anyone can invoke the name of President Duterte for more valid reasons against him as well?

Did he honestly think for a moment that the President will step in to fight his political battles in the community merely on his say so?  He must think so low of the President who’s waging much bigger wars than he can imagine.

If all elected officials who supported President Duterte will act and behave like this city official, then God forbid, we will have a country run by crybabies.

We hope this official’s threat will stay as a threat for his own self-respect.- Leonardo Micua

THE LYING SOCES — Everybody knows that the amounts declared by the candidates in their Statement of Expenditures and Contributions  (SOCE) are unbelievable, unrealistic.

To say it bluntly, they’re untrue. False. It’s similar to declaring one’s income. Laki ng bawas para iwas bayad ng malaking buwis. Siguro kung yung hindi nagsasabi ng katotohanan ay makikidlatan, sigurado magkakaroon ng vacuum sa national and local governance. Maraming matatamaan.

Who, among the losers and winners would honestly declare how much they really sent and contributions received? No one. Dapat sabitan ng medalya at pagawan ng monumento kung meron man, sa ngalan ng katotohanan.

Their common thinking is fill up the forms required, beat the deadline to avoid penalties and sanctions. They think no one in Comelec gives these submissions a thought anyway.

The deadline for filing the SOCE was June 8. So, I went to the Provincial Comelec office Thursday morning, June 9. I returned twice, in case my request to see the SOCEs of some candidates would be granted, for news sake.

I did not succeed. I was told all the SOCEs are forwarded to the Comelec main office and these are checked before the SOCEs are made public. Duh?  We said presidential and vice presidential bets’ SOCEs were all over the media that same day. Look at the papers, we insisted. Our plea fell on deaf ears.

Sayang. Pangasinenses were deprived to know the lies behind the SOCEs. Let’s hope the FOI will finally become law during the Duterte administration. —Tita Roces
