INVITE ME! Are politicians or their PR people supposed to invite all working mediamen in Pangasinan during press conferences?

This was raised by a journalist after hearing a broadcaster complain on air the guy was not invited during the press conference of a senator eyeing a higher office, in Dagupan City.

The broadcaster was protesting why only media friends of the supporter of the senator in Pangasinan were invited. The perception is this fellow was not invited for being known as one of the rabid supporters of another politician from an opposing camp.

However, the entity where this media person works is already represented by six reporters in that presscon present.

Isn’t that enough? A fellow reporter asked.

When the broadcaster’s boss invites his preferred newsmen during presscons, no one from the opposing camp complains. But when the same is adopted by the other camp, it becomes big deal?

WHO CAN BEAT THE ILLEGAL DRUG TRADE? One would think that with the marching order of Governor Amado Espino Jr., backed up to the hilt by new Police Provincial Police officer -in-charge Belli Tamayo (and even by his predecessor) for the police to hit hard on illegal drugs, the illegal drug peddlers would have nowhere to go but to pack up and leave.

But are they packing up? No, they are digging in and worse, they seem to have intensified their operations as gleaned from the police blotters showing daily arrests of more drug peddlers, a few of whom are in the police watchlist, who have made this as their livelihood.

The question is, the source of illegal drugs has not yet been pinpointed and no big fish in the illegal drug trade has been arrested. As many people pointed out, the only way to stop this illegal drug trading in our province is to stop this at source, which perhaps is an impossible dream.

If the President cannot do it (stop drug trading), can the governor do any better?

Meanwhile, the jails are now getting to be crowded with drug peddlers and there will soon come a time when inmates would have no more space to lie down on and sleep. – Leonardo Micua
