HAZARDOUS STREET BARRICADES. Recently, a concerned citizen informed The PUNCH of the dangers posed by the steel barricades in Asingan, “unmanned even at night, obstructing traffic and causing accidents.”

It will be recalled that DPWH Sec. Rogelio Singson issued Department Order No. 29 directing all DPWH field officials to strictly enforce existing orders for the removal of obstructions and prohibited use within the road right-of-way of national roads.

However, according to OIC-provincial police director P/Sr. Supt Reynaldo Biay, the barricades are being put in place by the barangay police to help protect school children when crossing the streets. So the barricades should only be used when there are persons manning these.

Unfortunately, this is not what is happening just as the concerned citizen reported. Personally, I have experienced the same, though not during night time, and not only in Asingan. The people assigned to man these barricades should see to it that the barricades are lifted once the school closes for the day. To this, Mr. Biay said he will remind all police stations to check the use of the road barricades in their areas. We must protect all concerned, the pupils and the motorists. – Johanne R. Macob

A POLITICAL LIABILITY– I’m sick and tired of hearing this king clown boasting and flaunting how much he makes every month from his political benefactor for the spins and hype he makes in media, obviously to make his colleagues so envious of him.

I only have pity for his benefactor for wasting his money and time on this lout who turns off his audience instead of earning support for the boss. He just loves listening to himself never mind if the people turns to the benefactor’s political enemies. – Leonardo Micua

SC POLICE WAITING GAME. When people are fed up and felt helpless, they try media for help. Such is the case of businessman Martin Alexander Sison Madrid, or Ian Madrid for short, whose company SP Madrid and Associates Law Firm that also operates Madrid Call Center in San Carlos City. He desperately asked for an SOS.

Their office is based in Makati City but has other offices in Cebu, Davao, Pampanga and Laguna but considers its office in Palaris St., San Carlos City, being also Pangasinense, from Urbiztondo town, also as home base.

He desperately wants the policemen in the city to act on the robbery in his office where he lost 10 brand new laptops last December.

He continues to wonder why nothing has come out of the investigation given the evidence provided by CCTV camera and with other pieces of vital evidence that warrant already the filing of case. Everybody in his office identified the perpetrator but what is delaying the police action?

To balance the story, the media sought the police chief’s explanation. P/Supt. Charlie Umayam reportedly said no witness has executed his/her affidavit yet up to now.

Newsmen in the know were not convinced about the alibi.

So Mayor Ayoy Resuello was asked next about protection and assurance the city gives to businessmen like Mr. Madrid who do legitimate business in his beloved city and victimized by criminals.

Pissed by the story, the mayor reportedly asked the police to give him one very convincing reason why Mr. Madrid’s sad story and others as well, are not given the service due them.

Is this the price of investing in their city?  I hope not. Sana hindi na kailangang maging martilyo na kailangan pang pukpukin para gumalaw. Let’s see what happens next week. – Tita Roces
