The gift of faith

JOHANNE R. MACOB

By Johanne Margarette R. Macob

A COUPLE of days ago, while I was driving, a fast-moving motorcycle collided against the right side of my vehicle. The impact was so strong that I thought the driver would be paralyzed — or something at that level — after. I immediately looked at my side mirror. Thank God, he was okay. I was not physically hurt as well.

It’s just the car that sustained significant damage. And I was really shocked.

Going home after the incident, I rushed to my room, avoiding any conversation with anyone in the house. I crawled in my bed and started crying. I started wondering why the incident had to happen when I was already being very careful on the road. I swear, I was driving slow and safe and still, it happened. Surely, I didn’t deserve it.

The thought went on making me rethink about the most difficult times in my life. I realized that albeit I have had my share of wrongs, I’ve done my very best. I offered a lot of me. And then what, ended up losing some of the battles. Or so it seemed.

I think I understood the idea. Disasters happen. Accidents are here and there. You win some, you lose some.

Sometimes, no matter how much love and care we give to people, they could still end up hurting us, leaving us. At times, even the nights spent to work on projects wouldn’t result in any acknowledgment. Bad things happen, even if we think we have been good enough not to deserve any of that misfortune, or heartache. Why? Because the only thing we have control over is our self. And faith is what we can always turn to in dealing with the rest.

I’m not saying that we should stop being good persons and cease doing smart and kind deeds. What I’m saying is we have to do our part and if things still don’t turn out right, then let our faith overpower the disappointments.

I know in this world lies and deceits abound, faith always finds itself in a bout. But that’s actually what faith is all about, having complete trust.

Have faith in yourself, that you can get through whatever. Have faith in people, sometimes it’s what they need to trust in themselves too. And of course, have faith in God, and believe that everything is for the best.

Our faith is being challenged day to day. So let’s remind ourselves that faith is one of best gifts we can offer or re-offer ourselves and others this Christmas.

Have faith and keep it. A blessed holiday season to one and all!

P.S. By the way, the other day, things got settled with regards to the vehicular incident. I got over my shock and confident in driving again, I’m actually excited, now more than ever, for new destinations to reach. And I know things will all get better in their own time. I have my faith intact.
