They can dream, can’t they?

The CONSTITUTION of the REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES
PREAMBLE
“We, the sovereign Filipino people, imploring the aid of Almighty God, in order to build a just and humane society and establish a Government that shall embody our ideals and aspirations, promote the common good, conserve and develop our patrimony, and secure to ourselves and our posterity the blessings of independence and democracy under the rule of law and a regime of truth, justice. Freedom, love, equality, and peace, do ordain and promulgate this Constitution.”
The Preamble of the Constitution of the Philippines must be delightfully made in heaven but distressingly lived here in this country. It is sublime in thoughts and words but stunted in reality and fact. It is also dear and endearing to read but so sad and saddening to know what is in fact ground reality. Its framers should be admired and praised but its exception – never mind! But the said some 41 illustrious framers of the Philippine Constitution might ask:
Are the Filipino people sovereign?
Is the Philippine society just and humane?
Is the government embodying Filipino ideas and aspirations?
Is the common good promoted?
Is the patrimony conserved and developed?
Is the two-fold blessing of independence and democracy secured for posterity?
Is the regime of truth, justice, and freedom assured?
Is the regime of love, equality, and peace insured?
To give an unconditional “Yes” answer is any – if not all – of the above inquiries would be already be rewarding to the said framers of the Philippine constitution. But as far as the here and now, people of the Philippines are concerned, it is still alright: They can dream, can’t they?
