DEPENDING on how you look at the world, the political confusion — the nonstop attempt to foist charter change, martial law talk, and the jockeying for mileage in the race to the presidency — has either become a merry-go-round craze or a requiem for a bleak future.

A cynic who could not conceal his disdain for our politicians’ low practices has suggested that instead of holding elections, an auction for the highest bidder might as well be held to choose our officials.

We feel awful thinking of these things. We thought some powerful force would descend on the land to provide us some kind of catharsis and, restore things to sanity and order.

We leave the matter to the All-Loving and Compassionate God to rid the world of furthertrouble. Cross your fingers.

At a recent kapihan of the local media, Mayor Nani Braganza tried to elude questions on nonstop hearsays that he is running for governor in 20l0.

He did not disappoint the media. To Ike Palinar’s insinuation that he was being egged on by a powerful politician in Eastern Pangasinan, Nani casually talked about his Asingan lineage. Asingan is hometown of his late mother, Manang Purita Agsalud, first degree cousin of former President Fidel V. Ramos.

We shall not deal with specifics which could show cracks on Governor Amado Espino’s shining armor.

You see here an unchanging political fact. Keeping political allies keeps changing.

What Nani did was elaborate on his litany of achievements in Alaminos City topped by the imminent construction of a multi billion commercial airport. It’s his way of showing off that a local executive can embark on a gigantic project. Isn’t that a gubernatorial statement somewhat?

We are not saying Sta. Barbara Mayor Rey Velasco has some gubernatorial plans too because he is assiduously pushing his airport project. In an accidental meeting, Rey says his eyes are only in finishing his projects as mayor. Congress, he says, can wait.

We can fairly establish that as of now it’s a run for governor for Nani. So who will run for Alaminos City mayor? Will Nani just yield the chair to Arthur Celeste who has announced his plan for it? Meanwhile, we wish to alert our friend, Guv’nor Spines that this man from the Hundred Islands is not a pushover in the game.

We promised last week to give our readers a few tips on what Mayor Jojo Binay told us on what makes Mayor Sammy Rosario of Binmaley tick? Here it is. Rosario has a small book that looks like Mao Tse-Tung’s red book, which is the saga of Makati City into what it is day.

Jojo Binay, it seems, gave his secrets of effective governance to his close friend and confidant, Mayor Sammy, so that Binmaley will become a Makati City of Pangasinan. There you go.

Now you can stop asking Sammy on how he has plotted Binmaley’s into becoming a model municipality in the north.

San Carlenian Adonis Samson will reign again as president of Club Pangasinense, association of Pangasinenses residing in Metro Manila.

His EVP, kin Mel Velasco, told us Governor Spines has been invited guest speaker at the fellowship night on March l4 at the Alegria Lounge of Holiday Inn. Mel says top Pangasinenses in the government like Health Sec. Pingkoy Duque, PNP chief Gen. Jesus Verzosa, LTO chair Art Lomibao, PMS chief Hermie Esperon, COA chair Rey Villar, his brother anti smuggling czar Bebot, and NCRPO chief Pol Battaoil will lead the honorees. Congrats!
