Growth promoter spells success in broiler and egg production

By Dr. Sosimo Ma. Pablico

A LOCALLY FORMULATED growth promoter has spelled more success for broiler and layer farms in Central Luzon, most especially in Bulacan and Nueva Ecija.

At least three poultry owners and a professor at the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija have come out and expressed much satisfaction on Biolyte, which was developed by Berlin-trained industrial microbiologist Dr. Ronaldo A. Sumaoang, president and CEO of the Novatech Group of Companies.

The four Bulacan poultry owners – Herminio Mateo, Bodie Mendoza Jr., and Boying Ramos – have been using Biolyte for a number of years now. Mateo and Mendoza attest on the faster growth of their birds as a result of adding Biolyte solution to their drinking water every day. In addition to their own poultry farms, they also give chicks, feeds and Biolyte to contract growers who would sell the broilers to them at harvest.

Mateo proudly says that although he uses class B chicks (those that remain after the class A chicks are separated), the birds weigh an average 1.8-1.9 kilos in 38 days. The feed consumption is only 1.5 bags per 100 bags.

For Mendoza, “Biolyte is one of only two local products that I am using in broiler production. For several years now, I have replaced a foreign premix liquid vitamin-mineral formulation with Biolyte because the imported product failed to meet my expectations.”

Dr. Edgar Orden, manager of the CLSU broiler production project, is harvesting an average of 1.8 kg per bird at 34-35 days. The feed conversion ratio is also low at 1.88, which means that each bird consumes only 1.88 kg to produce a kilo of meat even during the rainy season when production is usually low.

Some personnel of San Miguel Corporation have been wondering on Dr. Orden’s high production. “I told them I have no secret except that I have been giving Biolyte to the birds everyday until harvest,” he said.

On the other hand, the egg production of Ramos in Pulilan, Bulacan has been increasing by 2 percent over the last two years. This is because the birds continue to lay eggs even when they are already about to be culled. He uses 120 liters of Biolyte every month for 50,000 birds.

All of them provide Biolyte-treated drinking water to their birds everyday. They mix one teaspoon of Biolyte per gallon of drinking water and provide one liter of this stock solution per 100 birds.

They stress that even during summer, their birds are not affected by heat stroke. They claim that Biolyte is very effective in counteracting heat stress and other forms of stress, as well as in improving feed conversion efficiency.

Dr. Sumaoang points out that during stress, animals tend to eat less and their digestion and assimilation efficiencies decrease. As a result, growth rates are affected.

He claims that Biolyte counteracts the effects of stress by stimulating the animals’ appetite and by assisting them in digesting their food with the aid of the amino acids, yeasts and enzymes it contains. During heat stress, BIOLYTE provides the essential electrolytes and minerals to prevent dehydration, as well as the necessary vitamins and amino acids that may be needed during a period of physiological imbalance.

Stress could be caused by unfavorable environmental conditions like hot, humid and sudden fluctuations of weather conditions as well as wet and cold seasons when respiratory diseases are prevalent. During stress the feed conversion efficiency of birds given Biolyte is 6-12 percent higher than those deprived of the growth promoter.

At the same time, Biolyte promotes growth and vitality. With Biolyte in their drinking water, the birds grow faster and take less time to reach a target weight and, hence, the grower saves money, time, and energy.

Moreover, Biolyte provides greater resistance to diseases and reduces death rate. Studies have shown that birds provided with this liquid have greater resistance to respiratory infections and secondary infections caused by. E.coli. As a result, the birds have uniform size and are generally superior in appearance.

Dr. Sumaoang points out that although Biolyte is neither an antibiotic nor a medicine and, hence, does not treat any disease, it makes animals resistant to diseases and could also enhance the recovery of convalescing animals.

The provision of Biolyte is also beneficial to egg production. Egg production increases, while egg and shell quality are also superior. The eggs of breeders have higher hatchability as well as better size and shell even during molting. Moreover, Biolyte shortens the molting period of layers and breeders.
