Storage facilities for COVID vaccines ready

THE cold storage facilities identified by the provincial government are ready to receive the expected volume of vaccines.

Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health officer, said 215 vaccine refrigerators have been distributed to provincial government hospitals and rural health units but pointed out 32 are still non-functioning, while 11 are already currently in use.

De Guzman said the number of vaccine refrigerators to be used will depend on the number of vaccine doses that will be received. One unit can accommodate 6,000 vials.

Meanwhile, De Guzman said the provincial government continues to identify local governments for the placement of storage facilities that are capable of meeting the criteria set by the Department of Health that include accessibility to lifelines (referral hospitals and doctors) who will be deployed to observation areas to visit individuals undergoing inoculation.

Meanwhile, the provincial government is already preparing for plans for post-vaccination phase: identification of referral areas should untoward incidents arise that include collection and disposal of generated wastes such as vials and syringe. (Ahikam Pasion)
