AMID COVID-19 PANDEMIC

IT’S not Christmas but Festival of Lights of San Nicolas town has been making waves since Feb. 27 in search of the “warmth of light in the midst of darkness brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

San Nicolas Mayor Alicia Primicias-Enriquez said if Christmas lights traditionally symbolize holiday celebrations, “we hope that this time of the year will bring more than that”.

She said the Festival of Lights happen nightly from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. since February 27.

The mayor said the desired effect of the lights on residents and visitors is visible as they spend time watching it. “It lifted their spirits, giving them the strength to deal with the crisis and a reason to hope for a better life ahead,” she said.

“May your nights be filled again with cheers, warmth, love and happiness…and together, let’s continue to hope for that “magic” that sometime soon this health crisis will finally be over,” Enriquez said in her message.

Meanwhile, the local government reminded residents who go to the town hall area to enjoy the sparkle of the Festival of Lights that they must follow public health standards, “because, still, the priority is for everyone to stay safe and COVID-free”, she added. (Eva Visperas)
