THE operations of the dairy farm in Barangay Maraboc in Laoac town mothballed some five
years ago will soon be revived following the signing of a memorandum of agreement on February 25 between Governor Amado Espino III and Laoac Mayor Ricardo Balderas.

Under the MOA, the provincial government and the municipality of Laoac will join in restoring the operations of Laoac dairy farm under the Pangasinan-Laoac Dairy Farm Partnership Project.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan on February 18 passed a resolution authorizing Governor Espino to sign the MOA with the municipality of Laoac in a bid to revive the project initiated sometime in 2010 by then Fifth District Rep. Mark Coquangco and his wife Kimi who succeeded him, whose congressional pork barrels established the dairy farm.

However, the project was eventually mothballed after the Supreme Court declared the pork barrels of congressmen as illegal and unconstitutional.

Gov. Espino acknowledged the positive contribution of the project not only to the people
of Laoac but to Pangasinan because the project will not only provide additional livelihood and income to durable local farmers but provide jobs and ensure the revitalization of the dairy industry in the province.

For his part, Mayor Balderas thanked Gov. Espino for initiating the revival of the dairy farm that will soon surely distinguish Laoac as the milk capital of Pangasinan.

With some of its infrastructures, particularly its three silos for storing large volume of cattle fodders, still intact, the revival of the dairy farm’s operations will not be difficult.

The signing of the MOA was witnessed by Fifth District Board Member Rosary Gracia Perez-Tababa and Vice Mayor Nelson Gayo. (Leonardo Micua)
