SLIGHT SURGE IN PANGASINAN

AS Pangasinan braces for the Holy Week, more active COVID-19 cases were reported by the Provincial Health Office (PHO): 259 cases as of March 25 (up from 147 on March 17).

Of the 259 active cases recorded, 32 were from Dagupan, an independent component city of Pangasinan, that remained on top in the list of 48 towns and cities in the number of active COVID-19 cases.

Despite the 213 new confirmed cases, the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) assured that this is no cause for alarm as the increase is manageable.

The assurance was given notwithstanding the confirmation of the PHO that the more transmittable UK variants were earlier detected in Urdaneta City, San Nicolas and
lately Umingan.

On March 25, there were 37 more new confirmed cases recorded in Pangasinan while two other cases were registered in Dagupan, raising the overall total of confirmed cases in the province to 5,433, out of whom 4,917 had recovered and 257 had died.

In that eight-day period, the biggest increase was recorded on March 20 when 50 persons across the province were declared positive for the virus in their RT-PCR test, only one of whom was from Dagupan.

Lower cases were reflected on March 24 (10 cases), March 22 (11), March 19
(9), and March 17 (2).

Meanwhile Provincial Health Officer Anna de Guzman said the three patients detected with COVID-19 variants detected in Urdaneta City, San Nicolas and Umingan, are all in isolation and all their close contacts traced and whose RT-PCR tests tested negative. (Leonardo Micua)
