THE Manaoag Police Station has begun its preparation in anticipation for the influx of tourists and pilgrims to the town during the observance of the Holy Week.

P/Major Herminio Olivares, chief of police, said police will not prevent the entry of tourists into the town because of the easing of travel protocols even during the town’s curfew hours, 10 p.m.- 5 a.m.

However, Olivares said no visitors will be allowed to enter Manaoag during curfew hours, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m., from Maundy Thursday (April 1) to Good Friday (April 2).

“No visitors (even if they come from far places) will be allowed to enter the town during the curfew hours on those two days,” said Olivares.

Olivares said the curfew ban on the two days is necessary to prevent a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases in the province because of the crowd in Manaoag.

PNP Regional Director P/Brig. General Emmanuel Peralta recently visited Manaoag and left directives to further tighten security in the town including the augmentation of police forces from the SWAT, PMFC, provincial, and regional police offices for the duration of the Holy Week to help maintain peace and order.

Manaoag Mayor Kim Amador also ordered the town’s Rural Health Unit (RHU) to be on full alert to check on state of health of tourists upon arrival and for all establishments (restaurants and hotels) to require registration of all their visitors for contact-tracing purposes.

Olivares said visitors aged 15 below and 65 above are not allowed inside the Basilica premises for their safety on any day. (Ahikam Pasion)
