THE Department of Health – Regional Office 1 (DOH-RO1) expects to receive 12,000 doses from the 600,000 doses of China-donated Sinovac vaccine for initial distribution to the four provinces in the region.

Dr. Rheuel Bobis, focal person for COVID-19 of DOH-Center for Health Development Region 1, said the initial delivery is allocated for medical frontliners.

Based on the master list submitted by hospitals in the region, Bobis said 6,000 healthcare workers are included in the first batch of vaccination but clarified that the inoculation is not mandatory.

This equates to 12,000 doses since one recipient requires two doses of vaccine to be considered ‘fully inoculated’.

Bobis, however, clarified that only healthcare frontliners of COVID-19 referral hospitals, i.e., Pangasinan Provincial Hospital in San Carlos City, and Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City, will be prioritized for the vaccination. Other healthcare workers are scheduled for the succeeding deliveries.

Bobis estimates that full roll out of the vaccination in the region could begin this month.

Meanwhile, around 400 cold storages have been prepared by the DOH-CHD 1 for the storage of consigned vaccines, to prolong their shelf life.

Bobis reminds local governments to identify their vaccination sites at the community level. (Ahikam Pasion)
