Dagupan SP requests for fire boat to serve islands

THE Dagupan Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) has asked the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)  through the Department of the Interior and Local Government. (DILG) to allocate one fire boat for Dagupan to serve the city’s five island villages.

The resolution proposed by Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo, took note the suggestion earlier Councilor Luis Samson Jr., chairman on the city council’s peace and order committee, that instead of requesting for another fire truck, a fire boat would be of more use to the city.

Tamayo said five island barangays are not accessible by land, where houses and shanties built close to each other are vulnerable to fire and cannot be served by BFP.

He asked for Fourth District Congressman Christopher de Venecia’s assistance with national government agencies for the delivery of a fire boat.

While Councilor Michael Fernandez corrected Tamayo’s claim that three island barangays (Calmay, Carael and Pugaro) can be reached via Binmaley town, Tamayo said the distance from the fire station to the three barangays cannot allow for early response.

Three other barangays, Lomboy and Salapingao as well as Sitio Suit in Barangay Pugaro are completely surrounded by water.

During the KBP Forum on March 10, Fire/Major Georgian Pascua, fire marshal of Pangasinan, said the requested fire boat can be made part of the BFP Modernization
Law. (Leonardo Micua)
