USED face masks indiscriminately disposed of by visitors at the “Little Batanes of Pangasinan” located in Barangay Baybay Norte, Sual town made up most of the trash collected in a coastal clean-up on Jan. 30.

Groups that participated in the cleanup activity, mostly municipal employees and volunteers from different sectors, collected and removed trash, debris and other marine litter from the beach and on the mountain.

Over Bagbag Hills and Bagbag Beach or popularly known as “Little Batanes of Pangasinan”, a popular spot for beach-goers in the town, Diana Tabar, municipal treasurer said, “We have collected a lot… plastic bottles, all sorts of plastics. But most of the trash were facemasks left by visitors”.

The local government has issued an appeal to visitors to help in the cleanliness of the area and not to leave any trash.

To ensure that no trash are left behind, visitors are provided garbage bags and checkpoints have been set up.

The checkpoints also ensure that the guidelines for the minimum health protocols issued by the COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force are strictly followed. (Eva Visperas)
