TWO employees of the Commission on Election (Comelec) office in Dagupan City tested positive for COVID-19.

Lawyer Michael Franks Sarmiento, city Comelec officer, said Wednesday the two infected (male and female) employees have been brought to the isolation facility of the city and would remain there for 10 days.

Sarmiento said both were asymptomatic and will be required to take another swab tests before they can return to work.

The other 11 employees including Sarmiento who were close contacts of the infected employees also took the swab tests and all tested negative of the virus.

Close contact tracing of those who came to their office to register were also undertaken by the City Health Office.

Sarmiento suspected that their two employees might have been infected by registrants who were not aware of their situation.

A skeletal workforce has been put in place so registration can continue but through window transactions only.

Meanwhile, Sarmiento said it is surprising that they are averaging 70 registration daily unlike in last year’s 20 to 30 a day only and attributed it to the amelioration programs and local government subsidies offered to them. (Eva Visperas)
