SUAL Mayor Liseldo Calugay, along with the members of the town’s Sangguniang Bayan, invited officials from the Food Terminal Inc. (FTI), and the National Food Authority (NFA), for a possible establishment of a fish processing facility and an NFA warehouse in the town.

The town officials and guests conducted an ocular inspection of the designated area in anticipation of the passage of an ordinance by the Sangguninang Bayan and the eventual signing of memorandum of agreements between the Sual and the national agencies.

Calugay cited incessant numerous requests from fish growers and operators in the town for a fish processing facility whose daily produce are being exported to Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

The facility, once built and operational, will enable fish producers and dealers in Sual to produce by-products of harvested bangus in hundreds of fish cages: from boneless bangus to, smoked (tinapa), daing boneless bangus, bangus sardines, bangus lumpia, etc..

Sual contributes to 20.8% of the country’s total fish produce.

Aside from bangus, Sual also produces tilapia, shrimps, and prawns in large quantities.

Calugay also added the facility will further boost local economy since investors and major traders will be expected to flock to Sual and provide more jobs for persons for residents in Sual and nearby towns.

Meanwhile, he said the construction of an NFA Warehouse in town will greatly benefit local farmers because it will make the town a major trading hub.

“We are looking forward to the construction of these facilities,” Calugay said. (Ahikam Pasion)
