DTI extends deadline for renewal of service, repair shops’ accreditation

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has extended the filing of applications service and repair enterprises can still file for the renewal of their accreditation until March 31, 2021 without penalties.

Provincial Director Natalia Dalaten said the filing of applications of accreditation for service and repair shops holding certificate of accreditation that expired on December 31, 2020 and supposed to end on January 31 was extended to ensure that service and repair shops will continue to operate and render services during the period of community quarantine.

The grant of grace period on filing of applications for renewal of accreditation of the sector  was approved by DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez through the Memorandum Circular 21-03.

Cited are service and repair shops engaged in the service of and repair of motor vehicles, heavy equipment, engines and engineering works, electronics, electrical, air conditioning and refrigeration and other consumer industrial electromechanical, gaseous equipment, machinery, appliances or devices, Dalaten said.

She said the accreditation of service and repair shops is part of DTI’s program to provide consumers a protection that could grant them a service warranty of at least 90 days.

She reiterated her call to all repair and service shops to apply for accreditation to avoid the Php5,000 administrative fine after the extended deadline.

Accredited service and repair shops’ owners will only pay the annual fee (Php350 to Php500) and can avail of free seminars related to DTI programs and be enrolled as one of the most consumer-friendly shops under the DTI Bagwis programs. (PIA-1, Pangasinan/ JCR)
