PHO UPDATE: UP BY 47

THE number of active COVID-19 cases in Pangasinan slightly rose to 587 on February 4, from 540 on January 28 that registered 322 new cases against recoveries numbering 263, plus 12 deaths, or net 47 cases.

This was gleaned from the province-wide monitoring of the Provincial Health Office, the data of which showed that San Carlos City with 79 already leads among 47 towns and cities (Dagupan not included being a chartered city).

Health officials maintain that even as new confirmed cases are still higher than number of recoveries, the indication is COVID-19 contagion is dropping after the surge during the first and second week of January blamed on the holiday season.

In sum, the number of reported confirmed coronavirus disease cases in Pangasinan to date is 4,297, with 3,537 cases recovered and 173 people had died. Of the total confirmed cases, 3,260 were from the 47 towns and cities of the province and 1,037 or about three-fourth were from Dagupan City.

Meanwhile, there were 69 new cases that were registered on January 30, the highest for the week while there were 64 new cases tallied on February 4, then 57 on February 1 and 55 on January 29. There were also 32 and 22 new cases that were registered on February 2 and 3, respectively, and only 12 on January 31.

Recovered cases were also considered high: 79 on February 1; 56 on February 3; 48 on February 4; 32 on January 29; 24 on February 2; 18 on January 30 and just six on January 31.

Death tally showed six deaths registered on February 3, three deaths on February 2, two deaths on February 1 and one death each on January 29 and February 4.

The data by location (as of February 4) showed, Malasiqui trailed San Carlos City with 69 cases, followed by Calasiao (34), San Fabian (24), Sta. Barbara 23, Mabini (22), San Jacinto (22), Urdaneta (22), Bugallon (17) Mangaldan (17), Bayambang (16), Alaminos (14), Binmaley (12) and Lingayen (12).

Only six of the 48 towns and cities of Pangasinan or 13 percent do not have any COVID-19 cases: Agno, Anda, Bautista, Dasol, Infanta and Villasis. (Leonardo Micua)
