TWENTY-five displaced Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Sta. Barbara, received P5,000 financial assistance each from the provincial government on February 9 through the Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa OFW program.

The financial assistance program, component of the Abig Pangasinan recovery program, was launched by Gov. Amado I. Espino III, to address the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

PESO Supervising Labor and Employment Officer Richelle Raguindin said the beneficiaries were selected by migrant desk officers of towns and cities in the province based on the cause of repatriation, number of months/years OFW worked abroad, and economic situation.

Dr. Shiela Ferrer-Baniqued added that the program seeks to help displaced OFWs engage in livelihood ventures by providing them start-up capital.

The 25 beneficiaries took financial management training administered by the Provincial Population, Cooperative and Livelihood Development Office. (PIO/SMDG)
