TWO barangays in Dagupan City, Barangays IV and Mamalingling, have been declared drug-cleared by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

PDEA Pangasinan Barangay Drug Clearing Officer Mary Jean Botes said the regional oversight committee declared the two barangays during its deliberations December 16 last year.

Botes said barangays, according to Botes, may only be declared drug-cleared when they meet the criteria, namely, conducting intervention programs against illegal drugs, no listed drug users in the area, and completion of Community-Based Rehabilitation Program for surrendered drug users and dealers.

While both barangays have met the criteria, the status may be withdrawn any time if a drug personality is confirmed to be in the barangays and will again be declared drug-affected barangays.

Meanwhile, 1,039 barangays in 29 out of 47 towns and cities in Pangasinan remain drug-cleared, or 82% of Pangasinan is drug-cleared.

Botes urged the public to help in the campaign vs. illegal drugs by providing information of suspected illegal drugs activities, drug users, and peddlers in the area.

The public may send a private message to the PDEA Pangasinan Facebook account.

“We assure the public their information will remain confidential”, said Botes (Ahiikam Pasion).
