“I FELT as if I was in another country,”

This was how Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar described his feeling shortly after he inspected the Tondaligan Beach Baywalk, a project in Dagupan initiated by Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia last January 18.

After leading the inauguration of the Urdaneta Bypass Road, Secretary Villar motored to Dagupan City to inspect and see for himself the beauty and grandeur of the Tondaligan Beach Baywalk, at least 1.2 kilometers of which was already constructed and is now being given a concrete stamping surface to make it really a world-class walkway for pedestrians.

According to Secretary Villar, there are other similar projects of its kind in other places but the Tondaligan Beach Baywalk is something different as it will allow anyone an unobstructed view of the Lingayen Gulf and enjoy its refreshing and comforting breeze.

Villar assured Congressman De Venecia that he is already working for the release of funds for the next phase of the project that will extend to Bonuan Binloc, as well as the funding for the completion of a similar project in Barangay Mabilao, San Fabian.

The DPWH secretary expressed hope that more tourists will flock to Tondaligan Beach once the baywalk project is completed.

De Venecia initiated the infra-tourism project through his constant liaison with Secretary Villar of the DPWH and Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat of the Department of Tourism.

Congressman De Venecia considers the project as a crown jewel of tourism not only in the Fourth District but in Pangasinan.

The project is 13-meters wide with 5.4 meters reserved for pedestrian traffic and 2.4 meters each side for bike lanes. Its other components are park benches, plant spaces, ramp for Persons with Disabilities and many others.

Phase 1 of the project includes the construction of the pedestrian walkway and phase 2 is the provision of its added amenities like the concrete stamping surface to make it really more stunning in the eyes of tourists.

With Villar and De Venecia during the inspection were Build, Build, Build chairperson Anna Mae Lamentilo and Dagupan City Mayor Brian Lim. (Leonardo Micua)
