THE Provincial Government of Pangasinan paid tribute to World War II heroes in celebration of the 76th Lingayen Gulf Landings and 14th Pangasinan Veterans Day on January 9.

The solemn celebration in honor of the gallantry of the WW-II heroes, held at the Veterans Memorial Park, was led by Governor Amado I. Espino III.

Joining Governor Espino in the wreath-laying ceremony were: Col. Ronald V. Gayo, PNP Pangasinan Acting Provincial Director; Brig. Gen. Audrey L. Pasia, Brigade Commander 702, Defender Brigade, Philippine Army; Sheryl D. Simeon, Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) Provincial Head, Field Service Extension Office; and Luis Santiago B. Samson III and Charmaine T. Loresco, Sons and Daughters Association Inc. representatives.

Brig. Gen. Pasia commended the provincial government led by Governor Espino for its commitment in honoring the sacrifices and heroism of Pangasinense 76 years ago.

“Nagpapasalamat kami sa pangunguna ni Governor Espino na talagang ginugunita natin ang kabayihan ng ating mga naunang bayani,” Brig. Gen. Pasia said.

The solemn celebration, Brig. Gen. Pasia added, rekindled the priceless efforts of the Pangasinan veterans to fight for our independence.

“Karamihan sa kanila ay siguro wala ng buhay ngunit hindi napunta sa kawalan ang kanilang pinaglaban noong araw,” Brig. Gen Pasia also said.

Also present during the celebration were: Vice Governor Mark Ronald DG. Lambino; Sangguniang Panlalawigan members: Margielou Orange Humilde-Verzosa, Nestor  Reyes, Von Mark Mendoza, Vici Ventanilla, Angel Baniqued Jr., Jeremy Agerico B. Rosario, Chinky Perez-Tababa, Nicholi Jan Louie Sison, Salvador Perez, Jr., Shiela Marie Perez-Galicia, Jerome Vic Espino at Jeanne Jinky C. Zaplan; and department heads and hospital chiefs of the provincial government led by Provincial Administrator Nimrod S. Camba.

Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office Malu Amor-Elduayan stated that this year’s celebration of the Lingayen Gulf Landings and Veterans Day was regulated and held privately in observance of health protocols to prevent COVID-19 transmission.

“Konti lang ang tao and we did not open it to public or even to the veterans to maintain the good practices to prevent transmission of the virus in our event,” Elduayan said.

As of November 2020, there are 127 living veterans in Pangasinan, Elduayan noted.

The veterans will receive P10,000 financial assistance each from the provincial government which will be distributed directly to their respective homes.

“Ang Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) ang pupunta sa kanilang mga tahanan para maipaabot ang ating pasasalamat sa kanila at mabigyan sila ng assistance para makatulong sa kanila at makita ang kanilang kalagayan,” the PTCAO chief also added.  /Shiella Mae C. De Guzman
