AMID the campaign of the provincial government against COVID-19, its 90-day dietary supplementary feeding program for pregnant mothers launched on July 2020 has benefitted 3,000 pregnant women in the province last year.

In partnership with the National Nutrition Council (NNC), the program was offered to women in Alaminos City (680), Bayambang (900), Urdaneta City (700), and Umingan (720) to reduce not only the number of undernourished pregnant women and infants but the number of stunted children in the province.

The criteria used in the selection of the beneficiaries are: nutritionally-at-risk (underweight nutritional deficient) mothers, teenage pregnant mothers, and indigent mothers as assessed by the local government units.

The provincial government delivered the eight pieces of eggs and 8 packs of dairy fresh milk every two weeks, 15 kilograms of fortified rice, two kilograms of monggo, and one bottle of vegetable oil monthly, ½ kilogram of dilis twice in three months, and one kilogram of salt once during the three-month supplementation program to each beneficiary.

A total of P34.5-million fund for the program is bestowed by the NNC through the Provincial Resolution No. 745-2018. (PIO/PJS)
