PROVINCE-WIDE STATUS

THE number of new active cases in Pangasinan has ballooned to 734 as 317 more new confirmed cases were reported while 262 recovered and 14 died covering the period January 15-21.

According to the monitoring of the Provincial Health Office (PHO), of the 734 active cases recorded as of January 21, Dagupan reported 218 cases and, still the epicenter of the pandemic in Pangasinan, while the remaining 561 cases were reported in 41 other cities and towns.

Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health officer of Pangasinan, said the rise of newly confirmed COVID-19 cases after the holiday season was expected and it is no cause for alarm since recovered cases were also high.

She attributed the increase to the big number of people that entered the province to be with their relatives during Christmas and those who had the virus in their systems transmitted it to their close contacts.

But noticeably, most of the new cases were Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APORs) who, because of the nature of their work, traveled to other places to procure goods for sale in the province during the Christmas season.

In sum, the total confirmed cases in Pangasinan (as of January 21) were  3,704 while 2,821 had recovered and 149 had died.

Of the 3,704 total confirmed cases since the contagion started in the middle of March last year, 2,767 were registered in Pangasinan and 437 in Dagupan City.

Meanwhile, statistics posted by the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City as of 8:00 a.m. on January 21, showed it had 114 active cases and another 47 who were considered as suspects. Its overall confirmed cases totaled 853, at least 87 of whom have died since the start of the contagion.
