Tondaligan beachgoers cautioned due to strong waves
THE Bonuan Tondaligan Beach Park Administration cautioned beachgoers this holiday season particularly those who traditionally hold family outings during the season.
Park administrator Dante ‘Jhun’ Cadiz cited the near-drowning incident last December 6 when Francis Rivas, a visitor from Quezon City with 29 workmates, decided to unwind in Bonuan Beach.
Cadiz said Rivas, while not drunk, nearly drowned after strong currents overwhelmed him as he dared to swim in the deep part of the beach. Fortunately, the lifeguards saw him in distress in time.
He advised beachgoers not to swim in the deep parts of the Tondaligan Beach which are beyond the six-meter boundary set by the park.
However, since the buoys that served as markers and boundaries have been removed due to strong waves to prevent these from being destroyed, he advised visitors to be very cautious.
Cadiz said the buoys will be returned as soon as the waves settle down.
While the Tondaligan Beach is open to visitors until 9 P.M., swimming is allowed from 6 am to 6pm. (Ahikam Pasion)
