Halfway house for former rebels opened
THE provincial government has opened a new halfway house in Burgos town for former rebels who surrendered to the government.
According to Provincial Director Paulino Lalata of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), the halfway house will serve as the temporary residence and processing center for the former rebels prior to their enrolment in Enhanced – Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) that will provide financial benefits: P15,000 immediate assistance and P65,000 for livelihood assistance.
Gov. Amado Espino III assured the national government that Pangasinan will continue to fully support initiatives of the national government as Pangasinenses appreciate benefits extended to them
The halfway house in Burgos stands on a two-hectare lot earlier donated by former Vice Mayor Belen Cabiles to the provincial government of Pangasinan in 2017 through a deed of donation signed by Gov. Espino and the Cabiles family.
Cabiles, in an interview said, she wanted to continue helping the government, thus the lot donation.
The construction of the halfway house is part of the whole-of nation approach of the the government to end local communist armed conflict (ELCAC) and is embodied in Executive Order No. 70 signed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. (PIA/VHS)
