FARMERS in the western towns of Pangasinan will soon enjoy a diesel-less irrigation scheme with the solar powered irrigation system (SPIS) being constructed by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer Anna Francisco said the SPIS project in Bani was already completed last month and has been providing farmers an eco-friendly and sustainable source of water for their crops.

In Brgy Barlo, Mabini town, the program is 85-90 percent completed and it is targeted to be completed before the end of the year.

“Since the SPIS runs on solar energy, bringing water to farmlands will be much more affordable than the traditional diesel-and gasoline-powered engine pumps,” said Francisco.

Some142 farmer-members of the DAR-assisted agrarian reform beneficiary organization (ARBO) Rang-Ay Upland Integrated Farmers Association, Inc. in Brgy. Dacap Norte, Bani town  will benefit from the project. (PIA/RPM)
