CAPITOL NEWS

THE Pangasinan Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory and a blood bank situated at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) complex were inaugurated yesterday, October 28.

Established by the provincial government as part of the COVID-19 response strategy in the province, the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory is intended to fast-track the testing and release of result from the collected specimen for COVID-19.

The blessing and inauguration of the two new facilities were led by: Governor Amado I. Espino III, Vice Governor Mark Ronald DG. Lambino; Board Members Orange Humilde-Verzosa, Nestor D. Reyes, Von Mark Mendoza, Vici Ventanilla, Jeremy Agerico B. Rosario, Rosary Gracia Perez-Tababa, Nicholi Jan Louie Sison, Noel C. Bince, Salvador Perez, Jr.; and some Chiefs of Hospitals and department heads led by Provincial Health Officer Anna Ma. Teresa De Guzman and Provincial Administrator Nimrod S. Camba.

“Yung turn-around time dahil tayo ay collaborating with the Baguio General Hospital molecular laboratory, ‘yun ating resulta ay dumadating po sa atin 48 hours, so pamamagitan ng pagbubukas natin ng sarili nating molecular laboratory dito sa provincial government, ito po ay paiiksiin niya ang waiting time ng resulta,” Dr. De Guzman added.

The molecular laboratory can process and test 92 specimens per run for two hours. The PHO chief further stated that the provincial government targets to fully operate the molecular laboratory in November as the provincial government is currently completing some requirements before the release of the license to operate from the Department of Health (DOH).

“Noong October 20, tayo ay pinuntahan na ng DOH licensing unit with the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) team upang tignan po ang laboratory at dito po sa kanilang pag-assess at nakitaan po tayo ng minor deficiencies na matatapos na nating ma-comply hanggang sa October 30,” she said.

Dr. De Guzman also disclosed that the DOH and RITM commended the Pangasinan Diagnostic Molecular Laboratory: “Tayo rin po ay nabanggit isa tayo sa limang pinakamagandang laboratory na napuntahan nila.”

PPH Chief Aurelio Cariño stated that the provincial hospital regularly conducts monitoring and calibration for the maintenance of the molecular laboratory and its facilities. The PPH chief also assured that the medical technologists who will operate the said molecular laboratory are well-trained.

On the other hand, the blood bank aims to support the operation of safe and reliable blood services at PPH and in other provincial government-owned hospitals.

“Ginusto po ng ating gobernador na magtayo tayo ng sarili nating blood bank para sa gan’un, madali na rin pong ma-access ng ating mga kababayan at madali rin tayong makapagbigay at makatugon sa pangangailangan nila dahil meron po tayong sapat at ligtas na dugo na ibibigay sa kanila,” Dr. De Guzman said.

The blessing ceremony was led by Rev. Fr. Freddie Penuliar. /Shiella Mae C. De Guzman
