THE National Food Authority (NFA) in Western Pangasinan already bought 226,867 bags of palay (unhusked rice) for the past two months, and is aggressively buying more this second crop harvest season.

NFA Western Pangasinan assistant manager Chona Maramba said more farmers choose to sell their products to the government food agency due to high trading price compared to what some private millers are offering.

Maramba said her office already bought 153,058 of which were bought in October alone, exceeding the 60,000 target.

The agency again bought 23,437 bags of palay during the first of November making five out of its six warehouses nearing full capacity.

“We encourage farmers to sell their products to the nearest NFA warehouse from their areas. In case that we could not stock their products, we provide trucks to haul and transfer to another warehouse,” Maramba said.

NFA-Western Pangasinan has two warehouses in Lingayen and Mangaldan, and one each in Mangatarem and Alaminos City. (Jerick Pasiliao)
